No Time? No Money? No Problem!

This is how you can get fit with a zero-dollar budget.

There are so many ways you can workout on your own. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of benefits to working with a personal trainer but that’s a post for another day. Today, we’re going to discuss how you can workout with a ZERO dollar budget.

First, there are many trainers out there willing to give their information away. If you Google “Personal Trainers near me” or “free workouts” I’m sure you’ll get a slew of information. Same with just going to Pinterest for workouts. You just want to make sure the information is from a reputable source. Do they have a webpage? A personal training site? Free resources to give away (here’s mine)? What’s their background in training people? Do they only train a certain niche? What about their social media presence, if they have one? Does their personality match yours?

These can all be important questions because if you’re just looking to move your body, you may not want the free resource from the body builder. That workout may not match your goals.

Speaking of goals… What are your goals? Do you want to lose fat? Why? Why is it important to you? Do you want to gain muscle? Why? Do you want to look good in that Little Black Dress because it reminds you of a special night with a special someone? Your goals play a part in what workout to chose as well because you might see a workout that looks great on paper but is more for losing body fat when you’re trying to gain muscle. Yes, those two workouts look different.

So, where should you look for free workouts? I suggest going to the certification sites that personal trainers use like NASM, ACE, ACSM, etc. Personal trainers are usually listed once certified and you can see if they have a specialty training program that interests your or free resources. You can check Google and Pinterest, sure, but those will be more generic workouts. You can also checkout your local library for workout books. I’d also recommend going to BodyBuilding.com for workout ideas as they have videos as well. Form is more important than any type of workout you could do. If you do an exercise in bad form you could end up injuring yourself and have to pay for that expense!

If you have a few bucks to spare you can easily find workout bands at your local Dollar General, Walmart or Five Below for super cheap. Amazon has them as well. Otherwise, there is always a bodyweight exercise you can do. You can also use full water bottles, cans, weighted backpack, flour bags… Truly, there’s quite a bit you can use as weights.

Finally, you can also use what you have access to for free. You can walk or run on the sidewalks, trails, go hiking, or biking if you have a bicycle. A lot of city parks have little workout areas you can use as well with instructions on what to do at each station. Our Bass Pro Shop even has a workout area right outside it if you don’t mind being in the public like that.

In the end, you have to chose what you feel is right for you based on your goals, your needs, and equipment on hand. There are also free classes you can find as well. For instance, I found a yoga class that’s free on the beach every Sunday. She doesn’t even ask for donations! I found this class on meetup.com. There are so many groups you can look for!
