Here’s what we can do differently because eating nutritiously does not have to be difficult and you don’t have to hate it, my friend.
First, don’t give up your favorite food. When we give up something we think is “unhealthy” it can lead to overeating. Overeating is worse for us than actually eating something that may be unhealthy.
You also do not have to eat only lettuce when trying to eat better. There are so many full recipes out there that are healthy, involve all the main food groups, and taste so delicious. I’ll post a favorite recipe or two of mine below for you to try.
You can have your cake and eat it too! The key here is moderation. It goes with the first point I made in that you just don’t want to eat the whole cake. Whatever food gives you joy and pleasure (and won’t literally make you die) then eat it! You don’t have to avoid certain foods, just minimize how often and how much you do enjoy them.
If you think all “healthy” food is gross then you’ve just not tried the right thing. I could list a whole bunch of foods here that I find delicious but there’s at least one person out there who does think it’s gross. You don’t have to stick to foods you dislike just for the sake of being “healthy”.
You think healthy recipes are super long and tedious. Well, I’m here to tell you that you can most definitely follow the KISS method with cooking. I do keep it stupid simple around here and we love our food!
You can have alcohol. I’ll be completely honest here, it will stunt your goals. It’s up to you, however, to determine if it’s still worth it. The best bet would be to limit or eliminate sugary alcoholic drinks. It’s doable but you have to be super vigilant. If your normally drink 2 drinks a day, you could try going down to just one. Even that small of a change is beneficial.
You do not have to starve yourself, friend! Please eat more than 1200 calories unless you’ve gotten approval from your doctor and are following a specific meal plan prescribed to you. Yes, you need to be in a calorie deficit but most of us are eating way more than 1200 calories. If you eat too low then your body will hold on to what is there and be in starvation mode. We don’t want that either.
Okay, I am that person who actually likes rice cakes. I know, don’t judge, please. What does that mean for you though? Nothing! You do not have to eat rice cakes if you do not enjoy them!
Eating nutritiously is also not all or nothing. I’ve mentioned it a few times so I hope you’re catching on here. You can eat all the food. What’s best for me may not work for you and vice versa.
Finally, nutrition is something that’s all personal. Eating one Primal may work for you but not for me. What’s worked in the past for me may not work for me now. Our body’s change and change often. We have to adapt and figure out what works for each one of us as an individual. That’s a lot of trial and error.
Just please do not give up. If you don’t see the scale move after a few days that’s okay! It may just not be long enough for you to see a difference. The scale, by the way, is a whole nother blog post but we’ll get to that another day.
In the meantime, here are 2 recipes for you to enjoy! Let me know which one you try and what you think about it. One is plant-based and vegan and the other is not. I personally love them both!
