Science Sunday, 2nd Ed.

Hello, there (said in Mrs. Doubtfire’s voice) and welcome back to our 2nd edition of Science Sunday.

Today we’re reading about Aerobic Exercise Training Linked to Enhanced Brain Function in Adults at Risk for Alzheimer’s Disease.

I have at least one family member diagnosed with Alzheimer’s that I’m aware of. My mother (sorry, Mama for calling you out here!) has very poor memory and has for years. My own memory is not the best and, truly, it worries me the things I forget.

This article talks about a study that shows that regular aerobic exercise can slow or decrease the development of a person getting Alzheimer’s. The study only followed 23 people, which is not a lot, so to see something more extensive would be nice. I’ll have to follow up to see if there may be more on this.

So, what is aerobic exercise anyway? It’s what we all know as cardio! Whether that be walking, swimming, running, biking… Any movement that increases your breathing activity and gets your heart rate pumping.

What’s your favorite cardio activity?

Mine is walking! I tried to love running and it’s okay to me. I actually dedicated myself to run a 5k race every month for 12 months in 2013. I did it too. I ended up running more than that because once your friends know your goal then they’re always suggesting 5k’s to run (and Colorado has a LOT of amazing 5k’s)! I was in the Air Force also for 6 years so there was running then as well. My knees hate it now though.

Take me to the beach and I could walk for miles!

Anyway, I digress…

Cardio for Alzheimer’s? Yes, please!
